Unboxing

IM Nuvo Lagoon 25 Review

The tank was shipped across the country from Innovative Marines warehouse in California out to me on the east coast. Even though this tank had a long journey it made it to me in perfect condition. The aquarium was double boxed and padded with a lot of Styrofoam. The shipping was also fairly fast, only taking a few days.

First Impressions

I was impressed with the quality of the tank right out of the box. The glass was scratch free and crystal clear. The Nuvo Lagoon is constructed with low iron glass, this means it doesn’t have that slight green tint most aquarium glass has. I next inspected all the seams. Innovative Marine is known for using their black silicone. I did not find any imperfections in the seams or silicone so I felt confident filling the tank for the first time.

Setup

Set up was very straight forward. Peal the protective brown paper off the back wall of the aquarium and fill it up. The pump easily attached to the incuded hoses which then slip on to the two included output nozzles.

Filtration

The back filter compartment has two overflows (filter inlets). One side goes through a very nice three section filter caddy. The top section the caddy is made for mechanical filtration, it comes with fiberballs. I replaced the fiberballs with regular cut to size filter media. The remaining two compartments in the caddy can be used for carbon and GFO. The other filter inlet on the opposite side of the back wall flows into a filter sock.

Mighty Jet 326

The Mighty Jet 326 gallon per hour DC return pump included in this package is actually very impressive. The pump comes with a controller that has several features. It has Stream, Pulse, and Feed mode. Stream mode puts out a steady stream of water and you can select how powerful you want this stream. Pulse mode is a wave mode that helps create random flow within the tank. Like stream mode you can also choose the intensity of the water flow. Finally there is Feed mode. By just pushing the center button on the controller the pump will automatically shut off for 10 minutes, then return to its previous mode and intensity. By itself the Might Jet 326 retails for $89.99 with makes it a great deal that is included with the Nuvo Lagoon 25 aquarium.

The Stand

As you may have noticed by the pictures above I did not purchase the available stand Innovative Marine sells for this tank so I can not comment on its quality. The reason I didn’t is because of the price. Innovative sells this stand for around $350, see the link below for the current exact price. For me this is far too expensive for a small basic nano aquarium stand. I opted to build a very basic stand myself which costed me about $65 in lumber, $5 in hardware, and $15 in paint. In this case, for me, the savings in building my own was definitely worth the couple of hours it took me to construct the stand. I took pictures of the whole process of building the stand, I may write an article on it down the road.

What I would Change

There really is not much I would change about this tank. My biggest complaint is that the intake on left side of the tank uses a filter sock while the right intake uses filter media. Filter socks are much more difficult to clean and more expensive to replace than just normal filter floss/media. Luckily though InTank has a very cheap solution to this. They make a filter basket that replaces the filter sock on the left side. I will place the link to this product below or you can click here to check it out. I have already ordered this for myself.

Would I Buy This Tank Again?

The Nuvo Lagoon 25 is an excellent aquarium. The low iron ultra clear glass, sleek modern rimless design, and dual overflow and returns with the controllable Mighty Jet pump make this nano aquarium package a great choice. I have virtually no complaints about it. Of the many nano all in one aquariums I have purchased over the years this is by far my favorite. I encourage you to strongly consider this aquarium if your looking for a quality all in one nano tank. You can click here or the image below to check it out on Amazon.
